Handmade Kids’ Winter Wardrobe Course

Winter Wardrobe Course Description

January 12, 19, 26, and February 2, and 9, 2012 6:30-9pm at Maker Works Ann Arbor.

Learn to make your little girl’s or guy’s clothing with our progressive skill-building course.  You’ll receive hands-on instruction and coaching in a supportive environment. No matter your experience level, you’ll learn skills you can apply across all your garment projects, and patterns to use again and again!

We’ll be making four garments from our sewing patterns (included) during the 5-week class. We have scheduled instruction of one garment per 2.5-hour class, so you can expect to have some homework in preparing for class each week to keep us on schedule.

We have patterns prepared to make garments for children from 12 months to 8 years old, but please let us know if you’d like to sew for a younger or older child, because we’ll probably able to accommodate you very easily.

Projects for this class include:

Easy Pants in Robert Kaufman Madras

Week 1: Basic, easy pant. Elastic waist. Pocket and cuff options. Finishing technique options.

Week 2: Easy-fitting woven shirt (or dress) with contrast trim and cuffs, using an optional button-loop closure.

Week 3: Fully-finished Backpack, using interfacing, installing a zipper, installing piping, quilting a panel for reinforcement, and working with a lining.

Back Cover, Sewing for Boys

Week 4: Reversible Jacket. Sewing through multiple layers. Working with snaps or buttonholes. Pocket options. Collar options.

You can expect to learn all the techniques you need to complete each project, and to have plenty of help along the way. You will also learn how to modify the patterns to give you flexibility in putting together an entire wardrobe of basics for your young guy or girl.

Sound like fun? Registration for this session will only be open until January 2, 2012, so sign up now to save your seat!

Wouldn’t it make a great Holiday Gift? [hint, hint……]
